micg inquired:
After my last baby my ob put me on the Depo shot. I loved it! No menstrual cycle, no hassle, no missing pills…. However, after about 2 years, my family doctor would not administer the shot to any more of her patients due to the studies on permanent bone loss caused by it. I was disappointed because it was my preferred method of birth control. Has the information changed in regards to the danger of bone loss? If not, what are some alternative methods?

I dont know much about the Depo Shot, but I do use the IUD. Its an very small umbrella looking thing that is put in the opening of your uterus a few weeks after birth. It can stay in up to 5 years and can be changed out in the same appointment for a new one.
It is recommended for breastfeeding moms. It also does not make you gain any weight. You will never have to remember to take a shot. If you want to try to have another child, you simply make an appointment to have it removed and you will more than likely get pregnant within a month. Usually your menstral cycle will just dissappear (mine did).
I asked my doctor about it and he even gave me some little DVD to watch. Ask your doctor about it, and maybe some other options. Good luck.

Birth control pill, condom use, birth control patch.
You should try an IUD…. like Mirena…. its good for 5 years and they just put it in your cervix…. good luck..
An IUD would be a good thing to look into, but be warned, I tried one and I spotted constantly for months, then all of a sudden lost it. No idea how or what happened, it was just gone. I’ve been on the patch since then and I like it.
You could always get a second opinion when it comes to doctors! However, this dr is looking out for your best interest! They do have a pill out there that allows you to have a period 4 times a year instead of the full 12! I would ask your doctor!
Make you husband wear protection because the pill is no good for you. There is another way your husband can have that opperation that men have to prevent the fish from swiming.
Most men are sceared to have this done but it really is not that big of deal.
It is as much his responsiblity as it is yours.
I wish I could be of more help.
Look into getting Mirena an IUD it is wonderful and last up to 5 years but can be taken out early if you wish to try to get pregnant agian. Good luck.

Check with your doctor. They have alot of options for you lifestyle. I’ve known others that have lost an IUD, implanted itself to the uterus[had to be surgically removed] , and had a baby with the thing grown inside the baby as the baby was developing. The IUD was poking out of the baby’s rib cage. Be careful and follow you doctor’s suggestions.
