I am ready to have a baby and have been off birth control for over a year now, but nothing has happened yet. As a woman in my late 20’s this doesn’t seem right, so my husband and I both went in to make sure everything was OK on our end.
The doctor gave us both a clean bill of health and said we were good to go, and he saw no reason why we couldnt’ conceive. That was 5 months ago. Now I know that when you go off birth control, sometimes it takes a little bit of time to get back to “normal” or whatever, but it’s been over a year. What gives?
One of my girlfriends (who is not a doctor!) said it might be because I was on the Ortho Evra patch. She said it delivered a higher dose than some other forms of birth control, and therefore could be the reason I’m taking longer to conceive. Does this sound right? I loved the patch when I was on it and never had problems. Am I paying for it now?

I don’t think having used the patch is making it hard for you to conceive. Sometimes it just takes time. My rock star husband was really anxious for us to have kids and at the time I was on the patch. Two months after being off…wham! I was pregnant. It could be anything delaying it. Keep trying!
It’s hard to get a straight answer from anybody on any of this. It took me three years after getting off an IUD, when it should have only taken a month.
This may not have anything to do with anything, but I suddenly got pregnant at 43 just because I suddenly lost 13 pounds. Now I have a two year old and have to put up all the baby security stuff all over again.
This is a question that requires some research. I wouldn’t take the advice of any friends who are not medical professionals. This issue is just too important to be guessing.
I know that it can be so frustrating to want to be able to have a baby and to not be able to. But maybe it is a sign from God that you were not supposed to conceive but to adopt instead?
I am having the same issue. My husband and I have been trying since November. I took myself off the patch about three months before that, having heard that is may be more difficult to conceive after being on the patch. We have been trying every month and still no baby:( If you have any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it!!
